Research Interests

Dr. Ozbay's current research interests include:
bulletExamining age structure feeding effects of the American oyster (C.  virginica) on phytoplankton community structures in the water column.
bulletUtilizing flow cytometry as a means of identifying, analyzing, and sorting cultured and wild marine algal species.
bulletUtilizing flow cytometry to identify and sort viable algal cells found in the feces and pseudofeces of the American oyster (C. virginica).

Dr. Ozbay has also developed several student projects:
 
bulletExamining the market demands of baitfish and future prospects in Delaware and Southern Maryland.
bulletMonitoring water quality parameters of retention ponds that are affected by highway runoff.
bulletMonitoring water quality parameters and mosquito larvae in man-made retention ponds in order to find potential controls to reduce mosquito abundance.

 

Living Marine Resources Cooperative Science Center

The mission of the Living Marine Resources Cooperative Science Center (LMRCSC) is to promote and improve opportunities for education, research and advancement for under-represented students who aspire to pursue a career in the area of marine science. It is a collaborative effort between the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and its partner institutions: the University of Maryland Eastern Shore, Delaware State University, Hampton University, Savannah State University, the University of Maryland Center for Marine Biotechnology and the University of Miami.
